Walk the King’s Path Before BTS
The day is coming. 💜 Gwanghwamun Square—the heart of Korea’s history, culture, and spirit—will be transformed into a breathtaking sea of purple. This iconic landmark will serve as the stage for BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE ARIRANG. As a project of unprecedented scale in Korean history, the eyes of the entire world are now fixed on Gwanghwamun. To celebrate this historic moment, let’s explore the story behind these places ahead of the show!
Why Gwanghwamun Square?
Gwanghwamun is the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, meaning "the great virtue of the King shines upon the entire nation," and was a space connecting the King and the people. Since it was first established in 1395, it has passed through a long history and now serves as a central hub for transportation and culture. Likewise, this space holds a special meaning for Koreans. BTS said that they captured their musical roots and cultural identity in their album <ARIRANG>. Gwanghwamun must bee the optimal location to express the message of the K-POP Kings' return and their identity!
👑 What is the 'Path of the King' where BTS will stand?
Historically, there is an actual path inside Gyeongbokgung Palace known as the King’s Road. If you look at the courtyard stretching from Geunjeongjeon (where the King handled official business) all the way to Gwanghwamun, you’ll notice the center path is paved slightly higher than the sides. This is the king's path, called "Eodo" in Korean. Back in the day, this path was strictly reserved for the King. In fact, anyone else caught walking on it would be punished with 80 strikes of a cane! 😱 Knowing that, I’m even more hyped to see how BTS will make their appearance along the Eodo, connecting Geunjeongmun, Heungryemun, and Gwanghwamun gates. So, are you ready? Let’s officially start our walk along the "Path of the King" where BTS will soon stand! ✨

Geunjeongmun Gate & Jojeong
✅ Gwanghwamun & Woldae: The Gwanghwamun Woldae (elevated stone platform) was the primary space where the King and the people convened. After being damaged over 100 years ago, it was finally restored in 2023, returning it to its authentic historical form. ✅ Heungnyemun Gate: The name of this gate means "promoting propriety (etiquette) far and wide." It is an essential gateway to enter the inner grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony takes place right in front of it. ✅ Geunjeongmun Gate: This is the main entrance leading to Geunjeongjeon Hall, the King’s private domain. The front courtyard, known as 'Jojeong,' was the site of the nation's most important state ceremonies. ✅ Geunjeongjeon Hall: The main building of Gyeongbokgung Palace, its name translates to "diligently working and governing." It symbolizes the dignity of the palace and covers the largest area within the grounds.
