Gwanghwamun Square
Korea's iconic square where 600 years of history coexists with modernity
A year-round downtown plaza
Gwanghwamun Square is Seoul’s most iconic urban plaza, stretching out in front of the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Following a massive renovation, the square has nearly doubled in size, featuring significantly more green space. The square hosts a variety of events all year round. It comes alive with an urban water play area in the summer, and transforms into a festive hub with a Christmas market and New Year’s countdown in the winter. From flea markets to cultural performances, it is a space where Seoul’s daily life and festivals naturally blend together.
