“The curtain is rising! Come on in, everyone!”
Is the theater inherently a place brimming with divine energy?
Through the cracks between reality and the spirit world emerge the centennial gwangdaes° who have safeguarded the theater for 100 years!
The Obangshin° and the centennial gwangdaes, who have protected the theater for a century, join forces with the gwangdaes of today to create a spectacular celebration on stage!
A century of joy and a century of festivity- a performance that only the National Jeongdong Theater can offer!
For gwangdaes, the ultimate delight has always been to laugh and cry alongside their audience, sharing life’s moments together.
Now that the doors have opened and the curtains have risen, let’s laugh, cry, and revel together!
*Gwangdae°: Traditional Korean performers or entertainers who are multifaceted artists, skilled in various forms of Korean traditional entertainment such as singing, dancing, acting, storytelling, and acrobatics.
**Obangshin°: Rooted in Korea’s ancient cosmology, Obangshin is guardian spirits of space, in this performance, the theater.
The National Jeongdong Theater Arts Troupe carries on the legacy of the centennial gwangdaes.

A creative performance that highlights a modern interpretation of traditional performing arts, the National Jeongdong Theater Arts Troupe brings their artistry to today’s audience!
Drawing inspiration from “Sochundaeyuhui”, the performance weaves together a dynamic blend of traditional entertainment and graceful dances. This performance invites us to step into the vibrant lives of the gwangdaes, celebrating the beauty and energy of Korea’s traditional performing arts.

SYNOPSIS
While preparing for the performance “2025 Sochundaeyuhui”, a recreation of the 1902 Hyeopyulsa theater production by the National Jeongdong Theater Arts Group and its artistic director, Sunbaek, an unexplained power outage plunges the theater into darkness, sending people fleeing in panic.
Frustrated by the sudden halt in rehearsal, Sunbaek begins to hum a tune, which causes the atmosphere of the theater to change in a mysterious way. The space transforms, and through the cracks of collapsed time and space, 100 years of history and the gwangdaes of the past emerge. Amidst this unbelievable spectacle, a mysterious child appears before the bewildered Sunbaek, and they embark on a journey together through time.
It is later revealed that the child is LEE Dong-Baek, the greatest master singer(myeongchang) of the Joseon era. Through this encounter, Sunbaek discovers the true spirit of a traditional performer and, with the current arts troupe, brings forth a lively and vibrant spectacle.
