This year's first signs of autumn color are predicted to be 4 to 7 days later than average. The season will kick off on the peak of Seoraksan Mountain in Gangwon-do in early October. Peak foliage is then expected to arrive in the capital region and central areas around mid-October, followed by the southern regions toward the end of October. Since the exact timing varies slightly by location, be sure to check a detailed foliage map when planning your getaway!

If you want to enjoy the autumn colors in Seoul, head to Seoul Forest, often called Seoul's Central Park. Here, you can find the most easily accessible autumn scenery right in the heart of the city. The maple and ginkgo trees coloring the park offer a vibrant, multi-hued backdrop that makes for a perfect autumn outing. You can even grab some dessert and coffee from the nearby Seongsu-dong Cafe Street for an impromptu fall picnic or rent a bicycle to enjoy a foliage ride!

Nami Island Metasequoia Lane, Chuncheon

Nami Island, a key landmark in Chuncheon, is especially beautiful in the fall. The Metasequoia Lane that runs straight through the middle of the island is an absolute highlight you shouldn't miss! The path, lined on both sides by towering trees, is beautiful year-round, but in autumn, the blend of red and gold foliage creates an enchanting scene. Take a walk beneath this vibrant tunnel and soak in the romance of autumn as the sunlight gently filters through the leaves!

Hwadam Botanic Garden

Autumn at Hwadam Botanic Garden is the season when vibrant, colorful foliage washes over the entire forest. You can take in the spectacular views and photo spots by walking along the trails or riding the monorail. However, since monorail tickets always sell out during the peak autumn season, we highly recommend purchasing them in advance or planning to explore the garden on foot. It is truly a top destination to feel the spirit of autumn and find healing in the clean, fresh air!

Foliage Mountain

Naejangsan National Park

This is the place known as the "Mountain of Autumn Foliage," where over 2,000 maple trees paint the entire area red in the fall. It is consistently named the #1 destination for autumn travel in Korea. In addition to easy walking trails forming a vibrant foliage tunnel, it offers various hiking courses and a cable car. The absolute highlight you shouldn't miss is the Uhwajeong Pavilion. The tranquil pavilion combined with the colorful reflection of the maple trees on the calm lake surface creates a scene straight out of a watercolor painting.

Seoraksan National Park

This is the place where the autumn foliage begins earliest in Korea. Every fall, the red and yellow leaves create a spectacular view among Seoraksan's diverse attractions, including the massive Ulsanbawi Rock, the beautiful Yongso Falls, and the stunning Jujujeongol Valley.
It boasts various hiking trails categorized by difficulty and duration, making it a perfect spot for anyone—from beginners to experienced hikers—to enjoy the autumn leaves while climbing. If hiking feels too strenuous, you can take the cable car up to Gwongeumseong Fortress to capture a breathtaking, panoramic view that stretches from Sokcho city all the way to the East Sea.

In particular, the gentle Juwang Valley Course offers a picturesque view, combining the tranquil stream with the vibrant red foliage. If you want to enjoy a light, easy hike and take in the autumn colors without too much strain, this is the perfect place for you!

Foliage Drive

Jeju Island Road 1100

This is a scenic mountain road that winds along the foothills of Hallasan Mountain, becoming a famous autumn driving spot when both sides of the road are painted with red foliage. Since the route passes through 1100 Altitude (1,100 Goji), the mid-slope of Hallasan National Park, the natural scenery of Jeju viewed from this spot is spectacular—it's highly recommended that you pause your drive and fully soak in the views.
